We’re Logo Designers in Exeter
Designing a logo tends to be the first port of call when designing a new brand.
It’s certainly not the only part of creating a brand identity, but it’s where most people start off…
What does a logo do?
Logos become over time the overarching symbol that people use to identify your business. It’s going to be part of almost every single piece marketing material that you ever create. So it’s got a lot of work to do. People will be judging you consciously, or subconsciously based on the strength of the identity you build.
Our design process
Because a logo lays the foundation for your brand, every design begins with working out where you best fit in the marketplace and how to set you above the crowd with a distinctive image. The best logos are highly memorable, setting themselves apart from their competition yet still fit within the expectations of the marketplace.
Logos don’t have to literally picture what you do. Think about popular logos such as Starbucks (a mermaid) and McDonalds (a stylised M with no obvious association to food). Many logos simply use a unique typography and colour set to define them (think M&S, Google etc.). And still other logos closely picture the kind of products, values or service they represent literally or metaphorically (Burger King, Jaguar, Apple, Innocent).
Brand development
Brand development works in greater depth and covers much more ground. It’s about creating an identity which faithfully represents everything your business aspires to be.
The key to creating brand impact is consistency. Inconsistent use of different typefaces, colours and logo versions delivers a poor message. When your brand is inconsistent, people will think you’re inconsistent too. More than anything, customers love certainty and they can’t truly feel that if you have an inconsistent message, typography, tone of voice etc.
The work we can do includes:
- Logo design, typography, colour sets, tone of voice
- Identity research & design
- Brand research workshops
- Brand rollout on marketing collateral
- Product naming strategy & research (including domain names)
- Competitive marketplace research
